Shields, Rods…Lifts…Oh MY!

WHAT IS A LASH LIFT?

First, let’s start with what a Lash Lift (aka Lash Perm) actually is! A lash lift is a semi permanent process that will lift/curl your natural lashes to give a fuller, thicker appearing lash line without the use of extensions! The look will last from 6-8 weeks!

Now, let’s break down the difference from SHIELDS & RODS!

Many artists get confused on which and IF they should cary both shields and rods! I personally like to have both in my studio to ensure I can customize each clients lashes to their natural shape and end results!

SHIELDS

Shields provide a “L” shape curl to the lashes that provides the ultimate long lash effect because it lifts from the lash root!

Choose shields for the following clients:

  • hooded eyes

  • deep-set eyes

  • shorter lashes

  • wants a dramatic/lengthening style

The best shield size will be based on the clients lash length! You will want to have 75% of the shield covered with the lash.

Want more of a curl with a shield? Go a size up!

I LOVED the Borboleta Line Up Lash Lift Styling Rods when beginning. They have ridges to help you get the best curl and lift. For more freedom they also offer freestyle shields!

Lash Rods

Rods provide a “C” and even a “D” shape curl to the lashes that provides a more curled affect instead of a lift affect. The curl rods create doesn’t curl at the base of the lash so this gives a softer affect. If used correctly you can achieve a dramatic affect with rods!

Choose rods for the following clients:

  • looking for a soft curl to enhance the eyes naturally

  • great for everyone

  • can be sized to be more dramatic but shields are better for this!

Just as shields, the best rod size will be based on the clients lash length! You will want to have 75% of the rod covered with the lash.

Can be sized to be more dramatic but shields are better for this for this goal!

The biggest goal is to create a look custom for each client so this includes a consultation and measuring the shields or rods!
